Selected high-purity activated carbons support decolorization, impurity removal and process-stream polishing in pharmaceutical and fine-chemical production. Grade approval must follow the buyer’s process validation, applicable pharmacopeia and local requirements.
Discuss Your ProjectIndustry overview
Pharmaceutical-grade activated carbon is a critical purification media widely adopted in drug manufacturing. With ultra-low heavy metal, low ash and precisely controlled pore structure, it safely removes colored impurities, endotoxins, pyrogens, residual catalysts and trace organic contaminants without damaging active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
Our powdered activated carbon (PAC) and granular activated carbon meet USP and EP pharmacopoeial requirements, suitable for GMP-compliant pharmaceutical workshops for liquid decolorization, process water purification and waste gas odor treatment.
In liquid-phase pharmaceutical processing, activated carbon is mixed into crude drug solution. Impurity molecules are captured inside carbon pores via physical adsorption. The carbon is then filtered out to leave clean, decolorized API liquid. For water and gas streams, granular carbon beds continuously adsorb contaminants during flow.

Product parameters
Recommended starting ranges for technical discussion. Final values depend on the stream, test method and buyer specification.
| Carbon option | Iodine value | Typical size | Suitable conditions | Selection effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wood PAC | 900–1200 mg/g | 200–325 mesh | API/intermediate decolorization | Developed mesopores for larger color bodies |
| Acid-washed PAC | 900–1100 mg/g | 200–325 mesh | High-purity liquid processing | Reduced mineral impurities |
| Coconut shell PAC | 1000–1200 mg/g | 200–325 mesh | Trace-organic polishing | Strong micropore adsorption |
| Granular high-purity carbon | 1000–1200 mg/g | 12×40 mesh | Continuous purified-water polishing | Low dust; fixed-bed operation |

Frequently asked questions
Need a faster review? Send the available process data with your inquiry.
Yes. Share your process data and target limits so we can prepare a relevant evaluation sample. Freight is normally paid by the buyer.
Iodine value, particle size, strength, moisture and packing can be discussed against the equipment and required outlet quality.
Please provide the stream composition, target contaminants, inlet and outlet limits, flow, temperature, humidity or pH, contact time and current equipment.
Service life depends on actual contaminant loading, competing compounds and operating conditions. Pilot testing and breakthrough monitoring provide the most reliable estimate.
